E. Gabriell

First time children's book author, part-time hairdresser and casual collector of odd things and strange words, E. Gabriell presents her first children's picture book entitled Pompadou. A one-time recipient of the Australian Society of Authors mentorship award, E. Gabriell lives in Cairns, Australia with her family, pet pooches and a growing (not in the literal sense) collection of vintage wigs. She is currently working on her second children's picture book. E. Gabriell also created the illustrations and designed the cover of Pompadou.

Pompadou

Step through a cloud of scented powder and into the Hall of Mirrors.

Reflect upon le bon, le mal et le horreur!

Lift the wig on King Louis XIV.

Comb through the mind of Madame de Pompadour.

Brush up on the life and times of Marie Antoinette.

Explore beneath the beauty spots of Le Beau Monde.

Gloves, please!

Pompadou will also touch gently upon smallpox, pustules and pimples.

Entre vous.

*I was the editor and publisher for this book. It was prepared for publication by Lorna Hendry.

"A delightful book that is not only quirky and fun, but also very educational. A great introduction to language and history for the 7-12 age bracket. Pompadou is a humorous tale, outlining the strange and unlikely customs and intrigue of the early to late 18th Century, France. Learn a petite portion of French pronunciation and the interesting times of past during the French Revolution, all whilst enjoying the beautiful illustrations."

“Pompadou ! What a wonderful treat!

I was immediately mesmerised by the illustrations, so filled with the most intricate details it took an effort to move to the text. I was so excited to find the text held the same great capacity to enthral, presenting factual insight into the French Court in a style which will delight both adults and children

This is a book you can revisit time and time again and still expect to find a surprise.”

"This small book was a refreshing change. It transported me back to the time of the Sun King and the French Court. It put a spotlight on the eccentricities of a time gone by, when a sense of rationale had somehow temporarily disappeared. When the party ended a price had to be paid and it was extreme. The illustrations were a delight and I found there was much more to find the second time around."
