Jenny Overton

By all accounts, Jennifer Cynthia Overton (1936 - 2011) was a gifted and remarkable woman. In writing about her journey with cancer, her humanity and her spirit come through very strongly.

She wanted the content of this book to be a source of comfort to those with cancer, or even those without cancer, but who care for those who are suffering.

Brian W Godfrey owns Orkhis Publishing, the publishing company that holds the copyright for this title. Brian was also a dear friend of the author's before her passing in 2011.

Dr Juliette Lachemeier is the managing editor of The Erudite Pen. She designed, edited and provided publishing assistance to turn the late author's writing dream into reality.

Listen to the Silence

Listen to the Silence is a poignant chronicle of artist Jenny Overton’s journey with cancer. Using both humour and emotion, Jenny bared her soul through a diarist narrative about living with cancer and her conventional and alternative treatments.

Her touching exposé also reveals a unique philosophical attitude to life and death. You will read of the bond and effect Ellie had on this part of Jenny’s life.

Jenny treated this life-threatening illness as another gift on her pathway through life and was full of gratitude until the end. She saw both life and death as one big adventure, and her words will bring inspiration and comfort to the existential fears that we all face, whether with or without a terminal illness.

“From the very beginning of this extraordinary day-by-day account of Jenny Overton’s experiences after she had been diagnosed with cancer, we are taken on an intimate journey through every stage of her experience.

As we travel the road with Jenny, we reach an interesting junction where she discovers that her illness is a wake-up call to reassess her life and all the issues around life and death.

Jenny shares so much of her life with us because she so much wanted to break the silence that surrounds sickness, pain and death. Jenny’s journal is a positive book written by a poet and painter, about a journey that offers choices whose outcome is uncertain.

Throughout this beautifully produced and illustrated book holding some of Jenny’s poems, I felt I knew this thoughtful, brave and talented woman who desired her book to be a source of comfort to those with cancer.”
